Why spring is the busiest TV install season in Tampa Bay.
March through May is when Tampa Bay homeowners start spending serious time on lanais, by the pool, in screen rooms. New TV purchases for outdoor entertaining peak. Spring break parties, Easter gatherings, Mother's Day brunches — all benefit from a great outdoor TV setup.
Here's how to do it right BEFORE the heavy rains arrive (June onwards).
Indoor TV refresh — the spring cleaning angle.
Spring is when most Tampa homeowners realize:
- The TV is dustier than they thought (dust on screen and back)
- The cables behind the TV look like spaghetti
- The TV has been at the wrong height for months
- The bracket has slowly tilted over winter
If any of these apply — spring is the time to fix it. We offer a "Spring Refresh" for $79 that includes:
- Bracket re-tighten and re-level
- Cable management cleanup
- Dust removal from TV back and bracket
- Height adjustment if needed
- Optional: relocate TV to better viewing position
Outdoor TV — your most-requested spring install.
Why a regular indoor TV won't work outdoors.
Tampa Bay outdoor conditions:
- Humidity 70-95% most days
- Salt air corrosion (especially Pinellas/Hillsborough coastal)
- Temperature swings 50-95°F
- UV exposure
- Tropical storms with horizontal rain
Indoor TVs in these conditions: 6 months to 2 years before failure. Outdoor-rated TVs: 5-10 year lifespan.
The three outdoor TV categories.
1. Full Sun TVs ($4000-7000)
- 3000+ nits brightness
- Anti-glare matte finish
- Direct sun exposure rated
- Best for: pool deck, full-sun lanai, dock
Top models: Samsung Terrace 65" Full Sun, SunBriteTV Pro 2 75"
2. Partial Sun TVs ($2000-4000)
- 1500-2500 nits
- Some shade required at peak hours
- Best for: covered lanai, screen room, north-facing patio
Top models: Samsung Terrace 55" Partial Sun, SunBriteTV Signature
3. Shaded Areas TVs ($1000-2000)
- 700-1500 nits
- Fully covered outdoor space required
- Best for: fully covered porches, enclosed lanais
Top models: Samsung Terrace 43" Shade, SunBriteTV Veranda
What we add for outdoor installs.
Outdoor TV install is more involved than indoor:
- Marine-grade hardware — stainless steel anchors (saltwater-resistant)
- Drip loops on all cables — water runs off the cable instead of into the TV
- UV-rated cable shielding
- Stucco/brick anchoring for typical lanai walls
- Pre-storm removable mount option (slide out and store inside if hurricane)
Tampa Bay outdoor install pricing: $249-399 depending on wall type and complexity.
Soundbar for outdoor — the dust/moisture trap.
Many homeowners want a soundbar on the lanai. Reality:
- Indoor soundbars die within 1-2 years outside
- Outdoor-rated soundbars are limited ($500-1500 range)
- Alternative: outdoor wired speakers
Our recommendation: skip the soundbar for fully outdoor installs. Use the TV's built-in speakers (modern Samsung Terrace models are loud enough) OR install outdoor speakers separately.
Pool deck TV — the special case.
Mounting a TV near a pool requires:
- Minimum 15 feet horizontal distance from water (NEC code)
- GFCI protection on the circuit
- Splash-rated TV (most outdoor TVs are)
- Salt-resistant bracket (NOT painted steel — use stainless)
If you've got a saltwater pool, double the corrosion considerations. We've seen indoor mounts rust through within 18 months near a saltwater pool. Always use marine-grade.
The "I'll just use a regular TV outside" experiment.
We get this call once a month: "I put my old TV on the lanai 8 months ago and it just died."
Yes, that's exactly what happens. Tampa humidity infiltrates the TV electronics, condensation forms inside the panel during temperature swings, and the LED backlight fails. By summer, it's a $300+ TV that needs replacing.
Spend the extra $1500-3000 on an outdoor-rated TV and it lasts 5-10 years. Math: $2000 outdoor TV / 8 years = $250/year. $300 indoor TV / 8 months = $450/year. The outdoor TV is cheaper long-term.
Spring is also Tampa's allergy season — and the TV factor.
Tampa Bay spring = high pollen counts (oak, pine, grass). Pollen lands on:
- TV screens (especially OLED, sticky)
- Inside the TV (vents pull air through)
- Cable connections (creates corrosion over time)
Spring maintenance:
- Wipe TV screen weekly with microfiber + distilled water (NOT Windex — damages anti-glare)
- Vacuum back of TV monthly
- Check cable connections quarterly
Spring upgrade scenarios to consider.
Upgrade from indoor to outdoor:
Buy a Samsung Terrace or SunBriteTV. We can move your old TV to a guest room.
Upgrade size:
If you bought a 55" two years ago, now is a great time to upgrade to 75-85". 65" you held onto from 2022? Time for an 85"+.
Upgrade bracket:
If you have a fixed mount from 2020 and now want full-motion (kids moved out, you watch from a different chair) — we can swap the bracket while keeping the TV in place.
Pre-summer prep — what to do BEFORE June.
- Verify all outdoor TVs are properly sealed
- Check that hurricane shutter doesn't hit the TV when deployed
- Unplug seasonal TVs you won't use during heavy rain months
- Test storage location for hurricane-removable TVs
