Apartment TV mounting.

Tampa Bay apartment installs done right. Metal-stud experts. We know which anchors work, which walls to avoid, and how to patch holes invisibly when you move. Over 200+ apartment installs across Tampa, Brandon, Wesley Chapel, Westchase.
Tampa Bay has thousands of apartment renters who want a wall-mounted TV but worry about security deposits, metal studs, and landlord rules. We've done over 200+ apartment installs in Tampa, Brandon, Wesley Chapel, and Westchase. Here's exactly what to expect.
The 3 apartment-specific challenges we solve:
- Metal stud walls — common in newer apartments; require specific anchor strategy
- Landlord drill restrictions — we know what wall holes are acceptable
- Security deposit protection — we drill into studs (4 small holes), patchable when you move out
Metal studs vs wood studs.
Most Tampa Bay apartments built after 2000 use metal studs behind drywall. Older buildings (pre-1990) typically have wood studs. Many DIY-ers don't realize the difference — and use wrong anchors.
Metal studs require toggle bolts rated for the TV's weight. Wood studs accept lag bolts directly. Mixing them up = TV falls off the wall within months.
We use a professional-grade stud finder that detects both materials, plus the depth of the metal channel. Then we choose the right anchor for your specific wall.
Will my landlord be mad?
Short answer: almost never. Tampa landlords expect 4-6 small holes from a TV mount (it's industry standard). Most leases explicitly allow it.
Before your move-out, we recommend:
- $5 spackle from Home Depot
- Sand smooth
- Touch-up paint (landlord usually has matching paint code)
5 minutes of work to keep your full security deposit.
No-Drill alternatives — if your lease actually prohibits drilling.
A small minority of Tampa rentals (especially short-term/Airbnb properties) prohibit drilling. We offer 2 alternative solutions:
Floor Mount TV Stand
Heavy-duty TV stand that looks like a wall mount but doesn't touch the wall. Holds TVs up to 85". We bring the stand, you keep your deposit.
$129 install + $89-149 for the stand
Adhesive Wall Anchor System
3M VHB industrial adhesive panels rated for 50-100lb TVs. Removes cleanly with heat gun when you move. Only works on smooth drywall (NOT brick/stone).
$199 install + materials

Common apartment install questions.
Will I lose my security deposit?
Almost certainly not. Standard TV mount install creates 4 small holes (about 1/4 inch each). Industry-standard wear and tear. When you move out, $5 worth of spackle + 5 minutes of work makes them invisible. Most Tampa landlords don't even mention it during walk-through.
Can you install on the wall my apartment shares with neighbors?
Yes, but with caveats: drilling shared walls can transmit some vibration to your neighbor. We use vibration-dampening rubber washers behind the bracket plate. For TVs over 65" we recommend interior walls (not shared) for the best long-term peace of mind.
My building manager says "no holes" — is that real?
It's rare but does happen, mostly with short-term rentals and corporate housing. We've seen actual lease language that prohibits ALL drilling. If that's your situation, we offer our no-drill solutions (floor stand or adhesive). Just ask.
How do I know if I have metal or wood studs?
Don't worry about it — we figure it out before drilling. Our professional stud finder detects both, plus depth. If you want to know yourself before booking: tap on the wall with a knuckle. Hollow = drywall over studs. Solid = concrete-block (exterior wall in FL). Magnetic stud finders (cheap ones) will stick to metal studs but not wood. We use better equipment.
Can you mount above the fireplace in my apartment?
If your apartment has a fireplace (rare in Tampa), yes — but we'll check it during the consultation. Many decorative fireplaces in apartments have backing that can't hold a TV. We bring an inspection camera to check before drilling.
What about wires? My apartment isn't wired for cable behind the TV.
Two options: (1) Cable raceway (white plastic channel runs from TV down to outlet, paintable, looks clean — $30 extra), or (2) In-wall fish (we cut a small hole behind the TV and another near the floor, fish cables through the wall — $50 extra, $149 total with install). Most apartments work with option 2 if you have access from below.
