What's the perfect TV mount height?
Find out in 10 seconds.
The 42-inch-from-floor rule is a myth. Real ergonomics depends on your TV size, your seated eye level, and your viewing distance. Our calculator does the math properly.
Why this calculator beats the "42-inch rule".
The "mount your TV 42 inches from the floor to the center" rule comes from outdated cable-TV-era recommendations and doesn't account for: your actual eye level when seated, the size of your TV (a 42" and a 85" TV have wildly different center heights at the same mount), the type of room (bedroom vs living room are different), or whether the bracket can tilt to compensate.
This calculator does the math properly. Try moving the sliders — you'll see the recommendation change as your inputs do.
Common Tampa-area scenarios:
- Standard South Tampa living room (42" eye, 12ft distance, 65" TV): Mount center 46-48", tilt or full-motion bracket.
- Master bedroom mount (42" eye lying back, 10ft distance, 55" TV): Mount center 56-60", tilt-down bracket essential.
- Above the fireplace (42" eye, 12ft distance, 65" TV): Mount center 64"+, full-motion tilt-down bracket REQUIRED.
- Kitchen bar viewing (50" eye standing, 6ft distance, 43" TV): Mount center 64-68", tilt down 10°.
What we'll do during install.
You don't have to nail this exactly. When we arrive, we measure your seated eye level (sit on your actual couch with the remote), pick the optimal mount height, and adjust the bracket leveling screws to get the picture exactly where it needs to be. The calculator above gives you the right ballpark for planning.
Skip the calculation. We'll just install it.
